Ever After High – The next big doll line?
Yesterday I got a request, from NowInStock.net user Michelle, to track the new line of dolls called Ever After High™. At first I thought, who is ripping off Monster High™. Then I saw Mattel was behind the curtain, so I had to dig a little deeper to find the meaning behind this new line. After a little digging, I found out that Little, Brown Books for Young People, the force behind Monster High, have joined forces once again with Mattel to bring us this new storyline. I also found out there are already a few webisodes out there on YouTube.
The Premise
Ever After High contains characters who are the children of well-known fairy tale characters. They all go to the same high school, and they all carry the good and evil labels passed down by their parents. And per Wikipedia, characters “…are destined to follow in their parents’ footsteps to keep their stories alive through generations, otherwise their stories will cease to exist. However, one character is unhappy with her destiny and wishes to write her own path. A key theme is ‘Royal or Rebel’ which is between those who know they will have a happily ever after and those with less favorable destinies or those who prefer the idea of writing their own destiny.”
The Book
Just like Monster High, it appears these dolls will also be backed up by books. The first book is set to release on October 8th and is called Ever After High: The Storybook of Legends. You can pre-order this book now, just head over to our Ever After High Books & Media tracker to see where. Also, there are a few back-stories, Ever After High: Raven Queen’s Story & Ever After High: Apple White’s Story, available for FREE on Amazon in Kindle format.
The Cast
Not surprisingly, the characters are mainly female. Here are the characters featured in the image to the right. There are quite a few other characters, you can read more about them over at WikiPedia. The ones marked with an asterix (*) are in the Wave 1 doll line:
- Apple White™ – Daughter of Snow White*
- Madeline Hatter™ – Daughter of the Mad Hatter*
- Briar Beauty™ – Daughter of Sleeping Beauty*
- Raven Queen™ – Daughter of the Evil Queen*
- Blondie Lockes™ – Daughter of the Goldie Lockes
- Cerise Hood™ – Daughter of the Little Red Riding Hood
- Ashlynn Ella™ – Royal daughter of Cinderella*
- Hunter Hunstman™ – the son of a huntsman (presumed to be the one from either Little Red Riding Hood or Snow White) per WikiPedia*
The Dolls
The dolls of Ever After High are very similar to the dolls of Monster High, which is not surprising. I don’t think it was ever the intention of Mattel to separate the two lines that far. Apparently, CA Cupid is featured in Ever After High already. Some, including Justice, are referring to these Wave 1 dolls as Royal Dolls. Given there are both Royal and Rebel dolls in this wave, I am not sure this is the appropriate title for the line. If you are a collector and are curious of the doll construction details, you should read this collector’s review of Madeline Hatter.
All the dolls are sold individually except for Ashlynn Ella and Hunter Huntsman which are sold together as a 2-Pack. Here are the dolls in all their glory of a 2D screen, but I must say they do look stunning!
Availability
The dolls of Wave 1 are already available for purchase, but currently only at Justice. Only Apple White was in stock at the time of this writing. Here is the Ever After High Dolls Tracker so you can see which ones are currently in stock. And, be sure to add these dolls to your NowInStock.net account for FREE in stock alerting. As the holiday season approaches, I am sure we will begin to see more and more Ever After High. Be sure to continually check back for new dolls and accessories.
